A known expert in the area of Civil Engineering and the topper of the prestigious Thomson College of Engineering (now IIT-Roorkee), he has been involved in major construction activities that took place between the years 1955-1979. He retired as Director General (CPWD), which is the highest position in Engineering Services in India. He also held the position of the Managing Director of NBCC and                             President of Indian Roads Congress.
